2004-10-04 - 1:00 a.m. law school totally sucks. it is an atmosphere driven initially by fear, and eventually by competition. the hierarchy between teacher and students is extreme. the material isn't that bad- you basically learn the logical premises behind the american legal system and how arguments within different fields relate to each other (torts overlaps with criminal law and contract law etc.). i'm pretty sure i'm going to transfer next year. it's been a while since i've updated 9/20- went to orientation for shelter legal services, i'll go check out the actual sessions but i think i'm going to devote energy to other things 9/22- socialist alternative held an event at harvard- a speaker from sweden came- it wasn't particularly interesting- the sparticists were there, getting all polemical during the discussion period- what's up with them? is that all they do? 9/23- played poker with people i don't want to hang out with again- nothing wrong with them, just very different from me 9/24- hung out with more people i'm not sure i feel a strong connection with 9/25- my very first Azine political reading group meeting- we discussed wallerstein's last chapter in Utopistics, a chapter in LRS' program in 198(6?), and a less interesting article on globalization- met a few cool people- only one was my age (a little younger actually)- 9/28- out of curiosity, i participated in the negotiations competition- didn't pass the first round- it was a relatively valuable experience i guess- 9/30- went to info session of labor and employment law student group- met some cool people at my law school!! don't know when i'll see them again though- should try to email them- 10/2- went to the boston area asian american student conference- it was pretty cool experience- met a woman who does community organizing in the neighborhoods near Boston U Law school- i'm gonna see if we can set up some kind of clinic for tenants nearby- talked to a guy about the LRS and the New Left days in general- interesting insider analysis- some naascon people were there- bethany came up from NY and it was fun to hang out- met some cool API women from wellesly- explored beacon hill and newbury districts- TODAY: studying for school. law school sucks.
